OpenSorta: An Overview!

A long time ago, a tribe of PayGo cubicle dwellers built a powerful retail business solution for the masses. Over time, they enhanced its super powers so that others could harness the greatness! The result was a solution that provided the user a powerful tool for running their business - and at the same time, gave them the flexibiltiy to modify the look and feel of their reports, invoices and receipts. And as a splendid bonus, the users were given full access to certain files, which opened up a new world of ideas on how they could integrate their own unique systms and ideas to our solution.

The result was OpenSorta™

As you can see, 11 files from different parts of the world come together to make PayGo. To find out what they bring to the table and how you might be able to harness them, read the information below.

PayGo SP is designed using a data separation model, which means that the data is separate from the interface. This is nice, because as we update our features, you don't have to go through a data update process (most of the time).

Also - this model allows for the OpenSorta™ concept. Because all of your data is stored in one spot and you have access to all of your data (with the proper access priviledges) from an "outside" database, this means that YOU can build your own solutions around PayGo SP!

As an example; we use PayGo SP to sell PayGo SP! But we have a few special needs that are unique. We've been able to build a support and sales lead tracking solution that is fully integrated with our PayGo SP customer data! So, if someone has submitted a help request, we can track it on our custom designed help request database, and while in that database, we can read, edit or create information that is stored directly in the paygo_data.cji file!

Basically, OpenSorta allows us to concentrate on the basics of business, and you can work on the uniqueness of your (or your client's) business.

The Cast of PayGo SP Files!

Each file has a special meaning. Here are the files that you'll be interested in...

This is where all the data is stored. Invoices, customers, inventory - all of it! This file is protected - in that you cannot add tables or fields or layouts to it. But you can access all the data in the tables in this file via another FileMaker Pro file. This means you can create things like a customized customer entry screen, a lead tracking solution, a contact management solution, a membership solution, an inventory specs solution - if you can think of it, it's likely you can do it.

This is where most of the PayGo SP brains reside. This file is not modifiable by you, nor do we modify it for you. BUT, there are several functions that happen in this file that make "calls" out to the paygo_opensorta.cji file.

So what's that mean? Let's say you want to have a questionaire appear when you post a sale in PayGo SP. No problem with OpenSorta - when you post an invoice, the interface file makes a call to a script in the paygo_opensorta.cji file. This script in the open_sorta.cji file is WIDE open for you to do what you want with... you can design your own little questionaire window that pops up, pauses and resumes back to PayGo SP! This is so cool! There are basically endless ideas for you to implement.

In PayGo - we added OpenSorta scripts that allow you to make calls into the interface file. For example, let's say you've designed your own lead tracking database and suddently you want to create a new invoice. There's now an opensorta_NewInvoice script that you can trigger within the paygo_interface file.

As we talked about above, this file is OpenSorta central. This is the completely open file where you have the power to create scripts, tables, fields and more and then you can interface them with the paygo_data.CJI file (or other files that you design) There are predefined scripts that are called from within PayGo. To see a list of the scripts and what they do, please visit: http://www.paygopos.com/detail.php?id=5141

When PayGo prints - it sends everything to a file that you have access to modify! What does this mean? It means you can change the look of your invoice, receipt, gift certificate, etc. You also have access to the printing scripts, thus you can add functionality to the scripts. So, let's say you want a special email to go out to the customer when they buy a widget? You can program that special email into your Print Invoice script in the paygo_printing.cji file.
